Infectious Diseases and Genetic Epidemiology – Methods and Applications

Dear Colleagues,

On 17th and 18th March 2016, the workings groups “Infectious Disease Epidemiology” and “Genetic Epidemiology” will host their joint annual workshop, entitled „Genetic Infectious Disease Epidemiology – Methods and Applications“. The event will take place at the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute Hamburg (Please note, the change of venue!). We cordially invite all interested parties, including non- members of DGEpi, as well as colleagues from other DGEpi working groups.

In this workshop, we would like to illustrate different aspects of the topic, with a focus on current developments in genetic infectious disease epidemiology. This includes methods of genetic association studies, and also taking into account pathogen and host genetics. Furthermore, we would like to illustrate molecular biological methods and their application in genetic infectious disease epidemiology.

We take pleasure in announcing that Dr. Kathrin Schuldt from Bernhard-Nocht-Institute for Tropical Medicine (Hamburg) has kindly agreed to give a keynote lecture on „Genetic association studies” and Prof. Dr. Stefan Niemann from the Research Centre Borstel will talk about „Genome analysis to understand transmission and evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis“.

You are invited to submit an abstract, either under the workshop topic, or under a free topic referring to infectious disease or genetic epidemiology. The workshop will be held in English. For abstract submission (300 words maximum), you are kindly requested to send it in by 7th March 2016 to Stefanie Castell (

Participants without DGEpi membership are requested to pay a participation fee of 10,00 €. The event will start at noon on 17th March and will end the following day around lunch time. Beside scientific presentations, an important target of the workshop will be to provide ample opportunity for scientific and social exchange.

If you wish to take part in the event, please inform us by 10th March (stefanie.castell@helmholtz-

We are looking forward to numerous presentation proposals and an interesting workshop in Hamburg! Kind regards from the orga team:
