Overview

The focus of the research activities is the interaction of tissue (filarial) and intestinal nematodes with their host including immune recognition, protection and effects on the adjacent host tissue e.g. in the intestinal mucosa. Nematode antigens – recognized in particular by putative immune filaria-exposed individuals – are investigated for protective effects in animal models. Further, proteins secreted by the parasitic nematodes are examined with regard to modulating adjacent host’s tissue cells in three-dimensional in vitro model systems mimicing the in vivo tissue condition (bioreactors).  The research activities are conducted with our partners of the Fraunhofer Institute (University Würzburg), University of Veterinary Medicine (Hannover), University of Tübingen and N’gaoundéré (Cameroon).
