COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the Boeny region of Madagascar

Paving the road for worldwide vaccination coverage goal - CoBoGo

Several prophylactic vaccines against COVID-19 are currently available. Nevertheless, the vaccination coverage in several African countries is still below an acceptable threshold with Madagascar being one of those with lowest coverage. Which are the reasons? Can we improve coverage?

CoBoGo, a partnership of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine with the Malagasy Ministry of Health, the Universities of Fianarantsoa and Mahajanga and the Centre d’Infectiologie Charles Mérieux financed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is trying to discover it while filling the vaccination gap in Madagascar. CoBoGo proposes to organise a vaccination campaign aimed at covering 2.7% of the population of the Boeny region following an assessment and a communication campaign aimed at identifying and addressing barriers and facilitators to improve vaccination coverage.

The overall aim of this intervention is to promote vaccinations in one of the most hit areas of the country and at the same time to create a proof of principle to boost vaccination campaigns in the entire country.
