The image on the tile shows Ortrud Mührer. She included us in her will in 2018. With the ‘Ortrud Muehrer Travel Grants’, we have enabled 41 young scientists from low-income countries to participate in further education and training courses at the BNITM.

Of course, you can support the work of the Friends' Association in the usual way without specifying a particular purpose.

However, if you wish, you can also determine how your donation is used in consultation with the board. Depending on the amount of your donation, possible options include

• funding our doctoral prizes,
• sponsoring a young scientist from a low-income country, see Sponsorships in low-income countries,
• sponsoring one of the small hospitals or one of the numerous health posts in the endemic areas of tropical diseases that are involved in BNITM epidemiological studies,
• eradicating one of the ‘neglected tropical diseases’ in an affected village or district in the BNITM study area,
• support for a specific group of people in science or healthcare with links to the BNITM, or
• construction or renovation of a research building or research vessel in a BNITM study area.

It is our practice to attach the name of the donor to any donation or bequest, unless otherwise requested.
