More than 400 dedicated employees from the fields of research, technology and administration work at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine to improve global health. Over 125 years after its foundation, the institute is Germany's largest institution for research, care, diagnostics and training in the field of tropical and emerging infectious diseases.

One example of this commitment is our mobile laboratories, which enable rapid diagnostics and research in resource-poor regions. Together with partners in many countries of the Global South, the BNITM brings research, teaching and practice directly to where people most urgently need laboratory capacities, diagnostics and treatment – for a healthier future worldwide.

We conduct research where others do not look – on diseases that affect millions but receive little attention. With your help, we can develop diagnostics, vaccines and therapies that make a real difference.

The BNITM considers interdisciplinary training, the development of young talent and the further training of specialist staff in the fields of research, clinical practice and healthcare to be central to the successful and sustainable improvement of healthcare and research structures. In this context, the BNITM has established a wide range of international training programmes on biosafety, infection diagnostics and epidemiology.
