Advancing Global Health Through Education

Panadea awards the Panadea Global Health Education Grant, an initiative dedicated to expanding access to advanced postgraduate trainings.

The grant reflects Panadea’s long-standing commitment to strengthening global health systems and supporting the next generation of scientists, clinicians, laboratory specialists, and public health professionals - particularly those from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The Panadea Global Health Education Grant is designed to support participants from LMICs in attending two flagship training programs organized by the Interdisciplinary Academy of Competence & Education for Global Health (iACE Global Health) at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM):

Independent Selection Process

To ensure transparency, fairness, and academic independence:

  • Applications and candidate selection are conducted exclusively by the course coordinators at iACE Global Health at BNITM 
  • Interested candidates must apply through the official BNITM application system
  • Selection is based on BNITM’s established academic and professional criteria

This structure ensures that the grant supports highly qualified candidates while maintaining the integrity and independence of BNITM’s educational programs.

Recipients of the Panadea Global Health Education Grant will receive financial support to attend the courses and an official certificate recognizing their honour upon program completion.

Eligibility

  1. Eligible are any health-related professionals and students originating and working in low- and middle-income countries (as defined by the UN/World Bank) who have successfully
  2. Repeated applications are possible but priority will be given to applicants with no successful previous applications. Re-applicants are requested to submit a new application form. 

Benefits

  • Successful applicants will be granted
    • up to € 2,000 for the participation in short courses EPICID or LAB-SPHERE
  • as verified by receipts for expenses including
    • economy airfare (to and from Hamburg),
    • visa fees,
    • accommodation costs for the duration of the scientific programme (per diems cannot be granted), and
    • participation fees. 

Reimbursement

  • Payments on account are possible upon submission of a formal invoice.
  • Upon arrival at BNITM, please document all travel related costs on the "Reimbursement Form of the Panadea Global Health Education Grant” and submit all original receipts.
  • Applicants must state on the reimbursement form if they have successfully secured any additional funding for the expenses applied for through the Grant and delineate point-by-point the amounts received for the various expenses. In such cases, payments on account must possibly be repaid.
  • Reimbursement will take place at BNITM.
  • Please note that the maximum sum of reimbursement will be € 2,000; even if eligible, no expenses exceeding this amount can be reimbursed.
