Communication
The BNITM is a signatory to the Initiative Transparente Tierversuche and is therefore committed to providing open, transparent and ongoing information on the use of animal testing in its own research and to engaging in dialogue with the public.
We actively support the objectives set out in the preamble:
1. Providing transparent information
2. Helping to shape public dialogue
3. Exchanging experiences
4. Publicising activities
For us, it is essential to take responsibility in this sensitive area and to promote dialogue. We therefore regularly publish the latest research findings in the form of press releases on our website.
Another important component is the annual Hamburg Animal Welfare Day on 24 April, which is also Laboratory Animal Day. Since 2025, this joint initiative by Hamburg’s research institutions has been bringing together experts from academia and the professional field. In addition to the BNITM, participants include the University of Hamburg, the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, the Leibniz Institute for Virology and Evotec SE.
The Hamburg Animal Welfare Day provides a platform for researchers, staff and animal care specialists to exchange views on current developments in 3R research and innovative animal models in biomedical research.
If you have any further questions regarding animal testing at the BNITM, please contact our animal welfare officers.
