Our Principles in Outbreak Response
We work closely with National Public Health Laboratories (NPHLs), recognising their mandate and central role in national outbreak response, laboratory surveillance and disease control.
Our approach is designed to strengthen existing national systems in LMICs and Europe rather than create parallel structures, ensuring that capacities remain locally owned and sustainable.
A core principle is the training and empowerment of local laboratory workforces, with a strong focus on practical skills, Trainers-of-Trainers approaches and long-term knowledge transfer. This enables countries to build and maintain their own capacity to detect and respond rapidly to infectious disease outbreaks. After completion of our well established capacity strengthening program, countries are able to deploy mobile laboratories within days and reduce the diagnostic turn-around-time in the epicentre of an outbreak from days to 6-8hrs.
As of 2026, local mobile laboratory experts engaged in over 60 outbreaks and surveillance missions in Africa and Europe.
