Diagnostic emergency service

For samples suspected to contain life-threatening haemorrhagic fever viruses, which may require extensive isolation measures, we offer a diagnostic emergency service. Laboratory results are generally communicated within six hours after arrival of the sample. The emergency service is available 24/7 via the telephone switchboard of the institute, tel. +49 (0)40 42818-0. Those samples are marked with an asterisk (*) in the order forms and must be announced to the BNITM virologist on duty beforehand via phone (tel. +49 171 2127900 or +49 160 8548436).

Zika Virus

If you worry about having or getting a Zika virus infection, please do not contact us, but your general practitioner or gynaecologist. We only perform basic research, diagnostic testing and do consulting for physicians.

More information about the Zika virus can be found on the websites of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
